Volunteer With Us
Give an hour, a weekend or your talents — and discover the joy of giving that is at the heart of BLIA.
Giving is receiving
Venerable Master Hsing Yun taught that when we give joy to others, we are the first to receive it. Our volunteers find friendship, purpose and personal growth.

Make an impact
Help bring festivals, services and care to thousands of Victorians.

Make friends
Join a warm, multicultural community of all ages.

Learn & grow
Build leadership, event and communication skills.

Find peace
Experience the Dharma in action — no background needed.
Volunteer registration
Complete the form and a volunteer coordinator will contact you within a few days. Most roles need no experience — we provide guidance and training.
Do I need to be Buddhist to volunteer?
Not at all. BLIA Victoria welcomes people of every faith and background who share our values of kindness and service.
How much time do I need to commit?
As much or as little as you like — from a single shift at the Buddha's Day & Multicultural Festival to a regular role in a sub-chapter.
Is there a minimum age?
Volunteers under 18 are very welcome with the consent of a parent or guardian. Young adults can also join the Young Adult Division.
Do I need to speak Chinese?
No. Our activities run in English and Chinese, and bilingual volunteers are always appreciated.
Become a member of BLIA Victoria
Under the Buddha's Light International Association's guidelines, full membership is open to Buddhists who have taken refuge in the Triple Gem (the Three Refuges) and share the ideals of Humanistic Buddhism. Members belong to a sub-chapter, take part in regular gatherings and join a worldwide family of Buddha's Light members.
Not yet taken refuge? Refuge ceremonies are held regularly at Fo Guang Shan temples — we would be glad to help you prepare. Friends of other faiths are warmly welcome to join our activities as Buddha's Light Friends.
