As the Melbourne chapter of the Buddha's Light International Association, BLIA Victoria has brought people together through Humanistic Buddhism since 1992 — serving the community, celebrating culture, nurturing young people and building a more enlightened and harmonious Melbourne.
BLIA Victoria is the Melbourne chapter of the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) — a worldwide Buddhist association founded by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, with over three million members in more than 100 countries and regions, and consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
In Melbourne, our members gather at two temples: Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple in Box Hill and Fo Guang Shan Melbourne in Yarraville. We have four sub-chapters across Melbourne, our Loving Care Group, a Young Adult Division and BLIA Scouts. Our members are volunteers from every walk of life, united by a simple practice: do good deeds, speak good words and think good thoughts.

Supporting members, aiding disadvantaged groups and offering disaster relief.

Dharma classes, reading clubs and artistic and cultural exchange.

Vege Plan A, VEGRUN, and taking part in Clean Up Australia Day and National Tree Day — coexistence and co-prosperity.

Multiculturalism, interfaith understanding and world peace as part of a UN-affiliated NGO.
Venerable Master Hsing Yun taught that the heart of a Buddha's Light member is to give — not wealth alone, but what every person can offer every day.
Encourage confidence and trust in the goodness of every person.
Bring warmth and happiness to those we meet.
Stand with people through hardship and uncertainty.
Make life easier for others through practical service.
“Humanistic Buddhism is what the Buddha taught, what people need, what purifies, and what is virtuous and beautiful.”— Venerable Master Hsing Yun (1927–2023), Founder of Fo Guang Shan and Founding President of BLIA 人間佛教是佛說的、人要的、

BLIA Victoria members congregate at two Fo Guang Shan temples in Melbourne: Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple in the heart of Box Hill, close to Box Hill Station, and Fo Guang Shan Melbourne in Yarraville in the west. Both temples offer meditation, chanting, Dharma services and classes — and everyone is welcome.

Whether you can give an hour at a festival or a regular commitment, there is a place for you as a BLIA Victoria volunteer. No experience required.
